Trivia Tadka

Gujarati Dal Wada is a scrumptious and crispy Gujarati snack that is best relished on rainy days. Dal Wadas are also known as ‘pakoras’ or fritters. This dish is popularly served with hot chai, and is not only tasty but also healthy.

Ingredients

  • Green gram (moong dal) (1 cup)
  • Oil (for frying)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Green chilli (hari mirch) paste (1 tbsp)
  • Lemon juice (1 tbsp)
  • Ginger (adrak) paste (1 tsp)
  • Coriander leaves (hara dhania), finely chopped (1 tbsp)
  • Baking soda (1 tbsp)
  • Water (-)

Method

  • Soak the dal in water for 1 to 2 hours. Then, drain the water completely and add in some salt.
  • In a mixer-grinder, coarsely work up the dal and then, transfer into a bowl.
  • Next, add in the baking soda, chilli paste, lemon juice, hara dhania and ginger paste. Mix thoroughly. 
  • Now, heat oil in a kadhai and plop small balls of the dal dough into it.
  • Keep frying till they have turned golden and crisp.
  • Scoop them out and briefly place them on a kitchen paper towel to drain off any excess oil.
  • Serve hot with lemon chutney or green chutney.
